- Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy.
POSITION SUMMARY:
- This position collaborates with the Immigration Legal Services team at the World Relief Sacramento and Modesto offices to assist Afghan clients in applying for legal permanent residency by preparing the Form I-485, the adjustment of status application. Interns would preferably be based in the Sacramento area, but this is not required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist Afghan clients at intake workshops in completing necessary forms and worksheets.
- Contact clients to address gaps in their self-prepared worksheets
- Prepare immigration legal documents and forms under the supervision of legal staff using the LawLogix case management system
- Assist with case management and submission preparation
- Translate documents (preferred but not required)
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief
- Academic-year internships are open to undergraduate or graduate students. We are seeking 8 to 12 hours of service per week.
- Ideally, some hours would be available on Tuesday mornings
- Familiar with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Fluent in Dari and/or Pashto in addition to English
- Fine attention to detail
- Submit a liability waiver, complete a background check, watch a Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) webinar, and be cleared by two references.
$0 – $0 an hour
While some internships are unpaid, the program is competitive, and you are encouraged to approach it in the same manner as a job. Applicants are required to submit a cover letter, resume, and application, and to pass a criminal background check. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
