Duties and Tasks

As an incumbent of this position of the Controls & Automation Engineer-In-Training, you’ll support the design and delivery of control systems for large-scale industrial projects. Working closely with senior engineers, you will:

  • Prepare and review instrumentation and control design deliverables, such as P&IDs, control philosophies, and network design criteria.
  • Develop engineering documents, including instrument indexes, I/O lists, and cable schedules.
  • Assist in creating procurement packages for instrumentation and plant control systems, including vendor data reviews and technical evaluations.
  • Participate in PLC and DCS programming, factory acceptance testing, and software validation.
  • Learn to apply industry standards, safety codes, and Hatch quality procedures to ensure project excellence.
  • Support senior team members during design reviews, site inspections, and system walkdowns.
  • Collaborate across engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive project execution.

This position offers opportunities to travel to project sites, including remote locations, for both office and field assignments.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for this opportunity, you should be:

  • A recent graduate or final-year student pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical or chemical engineering from an accredited university.
  • Academically strong with a track record of teamwork, volunteering, or extracurricular activities.
  • Interested in control systems, automation, and communication networks.
  • Experienced (through co-op or internships) in electrical design, automation systems, or process control—an asset, but not mandatory.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office tools and ideally familiar with control system design software or data-centric engineering tools.

Key personal attributes include strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, adaptability, and excellent communication. We’re seeking an individual eager to learn, collaborate, and grow within a fast-paced, global organization.
